Cryptozoic Announces DC Deck Building Expansion Pack 4

Aug 12, 2018

Cryptozoic Entertainment announced the release of DC Deck-Building Game: Crisis Expansion Pack 4.

The expansion can be added to any game in the popular DC Deck-Building Game series to introduce cooperative play, Unity cards that can combine for powerful effects, and Personal Crisis cards that directly affect the owner of the card.

“Personal Crises are a new twist we wanted to explore after the world-altering Crises of the previous three expansions,” explained Matt Dunn, the game’s lead designer. “DC’s Teen Titans stories have always explored the relationships as much as crime-fighting, and that is reflected in the up-close-and-personal nature of the Crisis effects in this set.”

In the expansion, the keyword “Unity” is found on several Ongoing cards. When a Unity card is played, the player gains the benefit of that card, as well as well the benefits of any other Unity cards that are already in play. Therefore, gameplay rewards teamwork, as players can take advantage of each other’s Unity cards.

The set’s Personal Crisis cards cause Ongoing detrimental effects that impact individual members of the team, frequently hampering them in some way. Despite being targeted at one player, Personal Crises can end up taking down the whole team by depleting the main deck. The other players can help a player overcome a Personal Crisis, underlining again that teamwork is the key to victory.

Though the game works with any DC Deck-Building Game base set, it is optimized to work with DC Deck-Building Game: Teen Titans. It features Crisis versions of eight DC Teen Titans Super Heroes and comes with six DC Super Hero cards based on the Titans, original members of the Teen Titans who are all grown up: Arsenal, Donna Troy, Nightwing, Omen, Tempest, and The Flash.

Poker Assault available now from Cryptozoic

November 14th, 2016

Have you ever smashed your best friend with a Full House? Crushed a foe with a Flush? Made your mate irate with a pair of 8s?

The game you thought you knew has been re imagined as a game of combat, crafting killer hands, decisive moments, and non-stop fun with every turn of the cards!

Introducing Poker Assault from Cryptozoic Entertainment; All the excitement of Poker but with a combat theme, available now.

Take control of the mysterious and maniacal Invaders, the ferocious and unrelenting Wolf Pack, the elegant and vicious Vampire Court or the heroic aeronautical aces of the Rocket Patrol. Each team has its own custom suit theme and artwork. Play any deck versus any other deck, or even 3- and 4-player variants. While each deck is a legal 52-card poker deck, they are also so much more! Several cards in each deck have bonus abilities that can aid you while assaulting your opponent or defending against an assault. Additionally, if you can craft a Straight, Flush, Full House, or Four-of-a-Kind, you will earn an aptly named Power Card. These unique cards give you new strategies to pursue.

Chances are with your initial hand of five cards, you aren’t going to have much of a poker hand. But by playing only one card at a time, and drawing a new card from your deck after each play, you can slowly build up to something great. How great is up to how risky you want to get. Craft a hand of at least a pair, and your assault is underway! Now your opponent must block your cards using the cards in their hand. The defending player likewise plays only one card at a time and draws a card from their deck after each play. To block an assaulting card, match the value (2 to Ace) or play a card of the same suit (Heart, Diamond, Club, Spade), but with a higher value. Each assaulting card that gets through knocks your opponent’s hit points down by one. Bring your opponent’s health to zero and you win!

Designed by Ekaterina Gorn and Igor Sklyuev and adapting the art style from the 2016 reimagining of the video game, Master of Orion: The Board Game has been one of the most buzzed about games prior to and during this year’s Essen Spiel board game trade fair.

Mad Science Foundation card game released

July 26th, 2016

Cryptozoic Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of the card game Mad Science Foundation.

Mad Science Foundation is a dream come true for burgeoning megalomaniacs! 2-4 “scientists” vie for access to the building blocks of mad science, such as Lasers, Dark Matter, Cryptomium, and Sharks, from the appropriately named Mad Science Foundation. Using these precious resources, players must create outlandish inventions (complete with big red buttons!) that will allow them to glorify their own crazy genius. The winner is the one who achieves the most infamy!

Gameplay unfolds using a unique “I cut, you choose” mechanic. During each round, a player takes on the role of the Crooked Director, dividing resources for inventions into several piles. Piles are not created equally, with the Director player strategizing about what the others need and trying to keep those resources away from them. Each scientist then chooses a pile of resources, with the Director picking last. As play progresses, scientists use their resources to construct and activate devious inventions that can bring the world to its knees, including a Laser-Guided Sharkapult, Lunar Laser Cannon, or a Needlessly Complicated Booby Trap. In addition, Minions of various abilities can be recruited to aid a scientist’s nefarious cause, one round at a time. Scientists even have hidden objectives that are not revealed until the very end of the game.

In Mad Science Foundation, players use manipulation, backstabbing, and plain old evil to gain the infamy needed to become the greatest (or is that the worst?) mad scientist the world has ever seen!
